Samsung Gear VR Headset Refresh Tipped-Might Come With Its Own Controller

  • Samsung is said to bring a dedicated controller for its new Gear VR
  • The new Gear VR will be launched alongside the Galaxy S8 phones
  • Samsung is also reported to make launch date announcement at MWC

The next iteration of Samsung’s Gear VR headset might finally come with its own dedicated controller. The virtual reality peripheral was spotted in an FCC filing recently, giving very few hints on what it will actually be like.
The current iteration of the Samsung Gear VR comes with a touchpad on its right side. This is what allows users to navigate and control their smartphones while using the VR headset. The FCC filing describes a one-handed controller which will render the touchpad unnecessary and provide users with better control for apps and complex games.

New Samsung Gear VR To Come With Controller

According to a report by SamMobile, Samsung is preparing to announce the next Gear VR headset next month. The new model of the virtual reality headset is designed to work with the company's upcoming flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.

The new Gear VR will look very similar to the current model, as it will only have minor changes to its designs and features. Adding to the information known about the new Gear VR is WinFuture.de contributor Roland Quandt, who tweeted that the new Gear VR will get a model number of SM-R324, compared to the SM-R323 model number of the current Gear VR.
